Default Motor Build or New motor?

Well heres the deal Im wanting to get some more power. I have roughly $3500 to spend give a little. I would like to be around 400 hp. I don't know if I can find a motor already built for around that. So anyone know any cheap good quality crate motors? Its in a 31 model A sedan. So a 302 or 351w block is what I will need.

Currently in the motor from the guy before me.

1992 Ford 5.0L(302 cubic inch) forged stock rods pistons
Heads 1975 351 Windsor heads with roller rockers arms 1.6 ratio comp cams brand adjustable
Cam = Eldebrock performer rpm 302 hydraulic flat tappet -with lifters
Intake = Eldebrock performer rpm alum intake
Holley 600 cfm electric choke vacuum secondaries

I don't know if I should try and keep my motor and build it up or go with a new motor and then turn around and sell mine and recoup some of the money from it. Its a hot rod. Not really down the drag strip. I just want the power cause well im a male and I want it when I feel like I need it. 4.10 gears in the rear 8.8 c4 tranny.

I'm in Missouri around stlouis if anyone knows any motor builders in my area.
Thanks for some help everyone.

See what your local machine shop can do for you. It's going to be extrememly hard to find something new making 400HP for $3500. Summit offers a 306cid 340HP for $3700.

400hp, even at the flywheel, is a lot from a NA 302. You need more cubic inches, either a stroked 302, or better yet, a 351 based motor. Aftermarket aluminum heads would also help a lot....

I just think if im gonna do heads. I would like afr and will end up needing a new cam that will go along with that. And that alone will only boost me up what 80 hp? Its a non roller motor now from what he said. If I was to put a new cam in should I go ahead and make it a roller then while im at it? If so thats more money and still not alot of power. I have found a crate motor out of texas it says its pushing 425 hp and 460 tq and without the carb for 4200. I know thats more than I said but If I go that route I will have more then enough power there and will get some money back with the sale of my motor. Would my tranny hold up to that? Im just kinda running this by everyone to get opinions. I do appreciate the help and sorry if im frustrating.

Yes I would convert it to a roller motor. Crane makes a nice set of hydraulic retrofit lifters, albeit on the expensive side. You can run a more radical lift/duration cam with a hydraulic motor, and not have to worry about adjusting valve lash every couple months. I would look into stroking it, but I have a buddy with a 306 in his '95 that made 340rwhp. He had to spin the thing up pretty high though to get into his power band. AFR, Trickflow, or Edelbrock aluminum heads. If you're not looking to build it yourself, then yeah look at Summit's crate motors.
