Restoring and Mileage

Restoring and Mileage
How does mileage work when completely rebuilding a car? I've asked people this question but never have gotten a complete answer. Like I find a handful of older 60's era classics and especially older 5.0 foxes that are complete rust buckets, most of them missing complete drivetrains and are just chassis'. So if someone were to rebuild this and restore it, how would the mileage work? Do you just install a new odometer? And how would that effect/show on the title?
Reason I want to know is because my '95 will more than likely become a full fledged race car at some point in its life. It's got 128k on the clock. So the question pertains to when it retires from racing.

The mileage is based on the body. Your car will never have less miles than it does now. The title will never go down in mileage. However, you can say your engine/tranny has 5k or 10k or whatever many miles on it. But your car has what your body has. The only way your car or an old muscle car will have 0 miles on it, is by buying a reproduction body. As far as I know, they don't sell reproduction fox bodies. I have seen older muscle car bodies reproduced, though.
The title mileage will not change, even if you had a reproduction body for a car. I do not know if there is a certain title for a completely new car, but it would most certainly not be that of the original car. If a repro body was used as a "part" that got replaced, the mileage on the title would not go down. It may even receive an R title. That is a question that only an insurance company and DMV explain.
In summary, unless there is a certain title designated for cars that are completely made using brand new parts, including the body, the car will never be 0 miles. Installing a new speedometer will cause the title mileage to read XXXXXXX, if i remember correctly, and may even be considered fraud when selling the car. Again, consult insurance companies or the DMV.
