Strange putting in 2nd & 3rd

If i get on my mustang when i get in 2nd & 3rd my stang putters around 3k - 5k and it is killing my qt mile time. no sure what it is or why it's doing it. I just changed out my exhaust from the headers back so i have the back pressure in that area. any idea's???
