An aluminum headed 408 should be able to that on pump gas like everyone is saying.
I'd look for a C9 or Do casting block if you are going to use a Ford block.
Dart is another idea for a block, it would be much stronger.........

Would a 408 put 550 hp to the wheels or flywheel?

Found a couple of dyno pulls on youtube. The green car looks like a pretty high end build.

you can buy a crate motor from ford with that kind of power at the flywheel and they are using the ****ty z304 heads. put it this way Im putting down 830 to the crank with a 362ci motor obviously a way different direction in terms of motor use. But a 408 should be able to pull down 550-600 at the crank no problem with a set of tfs heads or similar head.

Many guys out there running a 393-427 stroker with tfs heads, brodix, edelbrock heads with a sporty cam but nothing outrageous making more power then your wanting

find a cam with a good match for what you want to do. IMO for the street go with something with good low to mid torque.

Pending the setup a 408 can really put down some numbers to be on the low side of the cubes on a 351 block!

Just done a 410 with a set of 200cc heads, comp retro roller cam, eddy airgap intake and it is making great power feel-wise it`ll hit the dyno after 500 miles.

I`ll post back then on what it makes to the wheels.
