Default 83 or 87 5.0

Need some help... Came across 2 5.0's one 83 5 speed with sunroof, and a 87 convertible 5.0 5 speed. I plan just basic bolt-ons just a fun car for weekend maybe take it to the track once in a while. Should I go for the carborated or fuel injected? Which has the most potential? There both solid bodies and run and drive (needs tlc and paint) around 120-130k on them. Personally I don't care ether way. Just want to know from pros.. Will post pictures

87 all the way if you want to do simple bolt ons. Numerous powertrain parts were strengthened and improved between 83 and 87, to include the engine block, transmission, rear axle, and brakes. For example, the rear axle went from the 7.5 to the 8.8.

Thank you but it's not hard to swap out rear ends. I do plan on swapping to 5 lug. Both cars are priced right at $1000 wish I could buy both lol

Is there any down falls to convertible I believe from what I've read they're heavier? Anything else?
