Default Help.. Losing hope

So I was changing a dead battery a couple days ago and I happened to put the battery on backwards. Sparks flew and I noticed the solenoid began to smoke. I turned the keys and it turned on with no problem. I took it out for a spin and I parked it in my driveway only to be disappointed after. I tried to turn on my car but a loud pop! Sound was heard. I began to think to myself "uh oh" I turned the keys but nothing! I can hear the starter but the engine won't turn over. I just replaced the solenoid and nothing!!! Anyone help? I'm losing hope

Need a bit more info , You can hear the starter spinning and its just not engaging the flywheel?

Or you hear a clicking sound from the starter?
If the starter is spinning and not engaging with the flywheel it will spin very quickly and sound like a drill motor. If that's the case then I suspect the loud pop you heard was either the starter drive gear broke or the teeth on the flywheel broke.

you will need to pull the starter and check the starter drive and bendix, and also use a flash light to look inside the bellhousing at the flywheel .

Also missing or loose starter bolts will allow the starter to push away from the flywheel and it wont engage. Ive seen starter bolts work there way all the way out especially if the starter was ever replaced and the bolts were not torqued correctly. Or the wrong bolts were used.
