Default 1989 GT hatch vibration front right wheel help!!

My 89 GT is pretty much stock I am getting a vibration at 50+ mph only in the front right tire I've checked the ball joints they are tight although I have about a 1/4" play from the arm coming from the rack to the tire is hat normal to have that much play or is my rack taking a crap? When I checked the other side it's tight, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to tell me something is not right there but... Want to make sure that's the problem before shelling out the cash for a new rack

On another note is a Manuel steering rack the way to go if I am to replace it I know they will help cut down on weight but are they street friendly and what goes and stays with the conversion?

Thank you very much for any help
Brian

Did maybe a weight come off that wheel, now it's out of balance? And that does seem like alot of slop in your rack. Is this a DD, or strip car?

Flaming River makes a good manual rack that can be used the street no problem, but they can be pricey compared to just replacing yours with a stocker.

I did check to see of it was just third by moving it to the rear and still same vibration... I took it on the freeway and noticed something that might make it a little easier to figure out what it could be. The vibration gets worse in left hand curves and goes away in right hand curves. Oh and it is my dd

No it is not normal to have play in your tie rod. Is the play at the outer tie rod, where it connects to the knuckle? Or the inner tie rod, beneath the boot where it connects to the rack? Replace the worn tie rod end and get it aligned.

The play is coming from the rod at the boot... I'll do some reaserch on racks and replace the whole unit. Thanks for all your help guys

The inner tie rod is replaceable but its tough without the special tools. A new rack will have new inners though. You should get new greasable outer ends as well.

Every inner tie rod I've replaced I've only used big crescent wrenches, some snips and needle nose pliers for that rivet that keeps it from spinning.

Check for a loose brake caliper while you are checking things......
