Im interested to see what's hiding under the intake and in the oil pan........Hopefully nothing.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

I had the day off today so I decided to tear into the engine and see what I have gotten into. I am not gonna blab on and on to much and just show the pictures. Comments, insights, etc. always welcome!!

Lastly, I am trying to decide how to progress with this engine build. The main aspect is I want this to be a BUDGET build. Thoughts on that are appreciated!!

Intake off

First head removed...there is water in the third cylinder...

2nd head removed.

First head

Second head

All this crap dumped out of the motor when I rolled it over.

YUKE!!!

Scrubby Scrubby!

After the initial cleaning..Still needs more..

The shrapnel laying on the floor is pretty scary looking. Hopefully the water in the oil pan was a head gasket or blow-by and not a cracked head or block.

LOL yeah! All that on the floor was carbon buildup I pulled off the motor; those didn't pour out when I rolled it. Yes it did have a blown head gasket.

I am trying to decide if i need to take the short block apart and replace the bearings and rings or if I don't need to. The cylinder walls look great with no scoring. Thoughts?

Plans for the motor ultimately is 300hp-350hp at the crank, covert to carb, and through a little nitrous at it 75-150 shot. All done as a budget build!

If you have the skill to tear it all the way down you'll have the piece of mind of knowing You have perfect crank bearings and good rings. It would suck to put it all together and find out the rings weren't seating properly. You've already went this far.

I think I can do it. I haven't ever rebuilt a car engine, but I have rebuilt several lawnmower engines. Yeah I agree, I would hate to get it all back together and that happen. I was thinking of using a kit like this. Anyone have any experience with it or similar or have other options?

Very cool find, congrats!

I love coupes, and a four-eye coupe is going to be a real head turner when it's done. You just don't see that many anymore that are in good shape.

Cool thread, bookmarked!

Can't wait to follow the progress.

I would take it down at least replace the crank bearings. Looks like it was driven for quite some time with a blown head gasket, and all that coolant in the oil tends to wash the bearings down and create tons of problems. Rings could probly use a replacing as well , there is a lot of carbon build up so I am assuming it was burning quit a bit of oil as well.

Would suck to find out you don't have good compression due to bad rings.
Also I would tear the heads down replace valve seals and clean it all up.
