1990 5.0 Rally Build
Hi everyone, my name is Jason and I'm attempting to rally race a foxbody Mustang in October. I went on to a rally website to get a little advice on it, but the reception was not particularly warm. I assume the people on this website will be much more supportive, lol. The main goal here is to see the look on just ONE guy's face when he gets beaten by a Mustang in a rally race. I know its not the right kind of car, but if I'm going to race, I'm going to try to do it in a Mustang.
So we have a 1990 Mustang with the interior removed and a roll cage put in. I got a scrutineer from the rally to come and look at the car. The Kirkey seats are illegal, and the cage was built for stock car racing. There are plans in motion (today actually) to have the cage rebuilt for rally specifications. What we really need is ideas for getting this thing around a rally stage. We want to raise it over stock height, possibly using parts from a Ranger pickup? Suspension ideas for racing on tight packed gravel/dirt forest roads? I don't want to run expensive rally tires and am looking to find a 17" steel wheel/BFG tire combo that will fit over the Cobra brake calipers down there and fender flares to keep them tucked in accordance with the rules. The class is OPEN RWD, so if we can dream it and build it, and it will beat a car or two, I'm interested.
