You should always have your head touching the headrest. It is a safety device constructed to help against whip lash...

Here is an article for anyone interested in why.

I also have added a image from that site that shows the correct position.

I respectfully disagree with you as my head is not touching but is less than an inch away, clearly in the safe zone. I would agree if my head were 4 or 5 inches away.

No, the seat back is not laid back and I'm not leaning "gangster-style". I'm 66 years old and have owned or driven just about every type of American performance car made over the past 40+ years ( and have never outgrown my love for them). This headrest, head restraint, or whatever you want to call it is simply angled too far forward.

Yep you are right on about them. But ford isn't alone. I'm about your age and have owned many cars trucks and suvs. I don't know what interior designers have been smoking the last few years but I've had to reverse the headrest on this mustang and a previous ram 1500 and Nissan rogue.

And I set up straight while driving; same as I have for 55 years. No problem till these newer vehicles that try to force me to drive with my head way forward. It's extremely uncomfortable and I'm flat not going to do it. Turning the headrest around on this mustang lets me set normal with around 1/2 to 1 inch from head to headrest.

lucky for you, it does the same thing and takes up the space. before your head even moves.
