Is this engine derived from the modular 4.6?

Modular engine family, not just the 4.6
The final 4.6 L engine was produced in May 2014.

The 5.0 C has a different firing order.

yes. it descends from the aluminum block 4.6. Basically everything was changed except for a handful of bolts, but the 4.6 Al block was the starting point. if you look up a car/truck with the 5.0 in OASIS it's even identified as "MOD 5.0L-4V DOHC SEFI NA."
