I still have less than 1k miles on my 2018 Mustang GT premium so I haven't been pushing it too hard. My plan is to HPDE this car and use as a street driver once or twice a week.
The other day I had an opportunity to do a 4-5 mile run at 100-110mph and it felt a little loose, like it was floating, a little more than I'm used to with my 2008 BMW. There is a significant difference in feel from 80mph highway cruise (typical around here) and the 100-110 I was pushing it to.
Drive mode was Normal. Steering mode was normal.
Is this typical? Will adjusting steering mode provide more "feel"?
In my experience, during HPDE I rarely go over 90MPH so it may not be an issue there.

What performance packages do you have? I would definitely change everything to sport mode.

No performance packages. 2018 gt premium, stock.

You should have opted for the PP1 or PP2 at a bare minimum if you are going to track the car. You can always add a Ford Racing handling pack aftermarket to make it feel a little more buttoned down.

A stock mustang will feel floaty because the suspension and overall feel of the car is made to appeal the greatest mass of people which are those that want a comfy performance looking oriented car. Notice I said Comfy performance Looking oriented car. Those masses rarely go above 70 or 80 mph and most, certainly wouldn't sustain speeds above 85 for long (if ever).

Suspension that is made to be comfy will sacrifice actual performance and in most cases, vice versa.

Since you will now be in the market to upgrade your suspension now, don't just look at Ford, there are a tone of aftermarket companies that will out perfom the OEM Ford components. What you saved on buying the stocker can be used for to customize your ride to what suits you best and you won't be throwing away money from upgrading the PP1 or PP2 package :)

The "comfy" issue is kinda what I was expecting but I wanted to hear it from someone else.
And your comments regarding an upgrade path are correct. I bought this car because the dealer (who I know well) was giving me a deal I couldn't pass up. Now it's just a matter of bigger wheels and stickier tires, stiffer suspension, and a few other things to get it where I want it to be. And I'm not in a rush.

For me, when I buy a new one, I'll be taking ProEagles view (and my own experience) and just opt for the factory PP1 or PP2 from Ford. I prefer performance oriented but I'm not looking to track my car so for me, either one of those is good-enough for my expectations/needs.

I'm in the same boat, just bought a 2018 GT and thought the same thing when getting on it. It feels like most if it is in the suspension but I also have the 18s with a high sidewall that is flexing a lot compared to the 19s I had on the BMW.

My BMW had 18's staggered 8 and 8.5 widths. only suspension mod were control arm bushings. it felt good in mid-triple digits. at this point i can't imagine getting this Mustang up there.
I'm getting a set of 19x9 wheels today and will probably go with R-S4s 275s. Thinking about sway bars and springs after that. do you have a plan yet?

I had mine on coilovers and M3 upper and lower control arms with a set of Michelin PSS on the 19s and that thing drove flawlessly at all speeds.

I'm looking for some 19s but haven't found any that I really like for it yet. I'm also planning on some suspension upgrades on down the road.
