Its official! The 5.0 has returned with 412/390 NOW WITH VIDEO!

We all knew about the specs, but this morning the information on the 2011 Mustang GT left embargo...there still isnt really "complete" information, but this is a pretty good start and look at what makes the new 5.0 tick.

While tons of information was leaked ahead of time, as of December 28, 2009, the 2011 Ford Mustang GT information is official. We all knew that the GT would be powered by a 5.0L V8 making 412 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque but with the release of their December 28 press release, full information on the new 5.0 is pretty complete.

We still don’t know an actual curb weight, although Ford claims that the new 412hp Mustang GT weighs just 10 pounds more than the current 315hp 2010 model. The massive amount of technology that went into the new 5.0 allows this engine to make great power and offer comparable fuel economy to the rest of the class and in their engineering efforts it appears as though the Mustang GT will hold its substantial advantage in weight over the cross town rival Camaro and Challenger.

One interesting piece of news is that Ford will be offering a special Brembo brake package along with 19” wheels and high performance tires, with the brake setup being similar to that found on the GT500 models.

There are still some questions about the 2011 Mustang GT, but for now this announcement gives the world a better glimpse into what is coming for the 2011 Mustang at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show. The only big question left to be answered is, of course, how much will it cost?

I wonder how much dealers will have to discount the 2010 models to sell them with the 2011's around the corner? I would touch a 2010 even with a $10k discount!

I think they have actually taken away then incentives lol.

wow, 412 hp. 6 speed trans, better gas mileage, and rumored at only 1k more.

I am speachless.... I really am. I love my 2010, I really do but I was way misinformed...

I'll get better in a day or two but right now I feel like a complete moron for buying a 2010. I am trying to find ways to feel better about it.. but damn...

I doubt it will actually only cost $1000 more, even if that is what the sticker says. Dont feel too bad, theres always a faster car and you just have to make what you have the best it can be.

Now that is $1,000 question... how these will be priced!

As much as I would love to have a 5.0 to start with, I assume these will be non-discounted for a while along with having a nice bump over the current '10 pricing.

Here is what I was wondering..how much are the 09s going for now? Local dealerships still have pre-refresh S197s on the lot...sitting next to the slightly more powerful 2010s and next we will have 412hp 2011s showing up...?

I was thinking about going into a dealership and making a ridiculously low offer on an 09 GT and see what they say..

i expect the price to come up for the 2011 models and early on im expecting a huge markup but like always, that will die off. the thing is, the GT isnt the top-echelon car. they can add these huge dealer markups to models like the GT500 or the challenger SRT8, but thats because there is nothing above the car. if youre a mustang guy, youre not going to pay double the price when you can buy a gt500 for LESS than that. however, they can demand double the price early on for GT500s because there is no price ceiling. the GT500 existing creates a price ceiling for the Mustang GT and in the same way the mustang GT creates a price ceiling for the base models. the gt500 is 45-50 grand...the gt coupe starts at 28. say that the base price comes up to 30,000 for the GT. dealerships arent going to be able to mark the car up more than a couple grand before its running into GT500 territory...

now, ford could really drop a bomb at the auto show and show off the next gt500 which ive been told by a ford rep could "very likely" have a TT 5.0. Say that ford comes out with this 600hp GT500 that costs 55-60,000 (the current gt500 nicely equippped rings up for around 50 on fords website). i think that a 5,000 dollar increase in price for the GT500 is reasonable for 600hp. if they do this, it would unfortunately allowe dealers a WHOLE lot more room to jack up the Gt prices...

I wouldn't count on that.
