You know..... I've asked a few shops about installing after market speakers in my Mustang and they told me that new speakers won't sound any better because there's not enough power coming from the factory head unit (shaker 500). My impression is that they are full of crap and probably just didn't want to do the work. How much better do they sound for all of you that have replaced them and still have the factory head unit, which I'm guessing is everyone.

i did the alpines on doors and rear desk and there is a noticeable difference, you can hear parts of music that was not there and the construction of speakers after nothing like a aftermarket set....they appear cheap and light, the shop i use does a the dealerships and they did all 4 for $500 that was for everything...

It all depends on which brand/quality of speakers u get. I put Memphis MC 5x7's in miy wifes 2010 V6 and it sounds a 150x better to me because you've got to realize you are going from a speaker that's made of paper and doesn't have a tweeter on it to one that has a tweeter and is made of plastic and in some cases like the Memphis they r made of carbon fiber so it will make a difference

I wouldn't ever go to that shop again.

I agree. The Pioneer Premiers I put in my doors are a huge improvement.

Sound Sensations in Marietta, GA pretty much told me the same thing when I was in there looking at what options they had available for upgrade. Not sure if you know who they are but they do some pretty decent work. At any rate, I did upgrade on my own and they do sound better. I think you will get a lot of these kind of responses from audio installers (except for your Best buys, etc) because they work on higher end components which beg for external amplification.

Shops that tell you crap like "You don't have enough power" just want you to spend way more money. With factory or low power(such as mot using an amp); just make sure you get some speakers with lower RMS ratings to be able to get the speaker louder. But at the same time with lower power you most definitely want a sensitivity rating over 90db.

I put in alpine type r's and they are great i did hower get a cheap amp to power them. All i can say is what an improvement and my audio shop said nothing about the head unit being under powered but that might be because i used an amp.
