Default clunking sound after letting off the clutch...

I'm at 160 miles so far and occasionally I hear an audible "clunk" sound whenever I shift (like immediately after i let off the clutch and before i engage the gas pedal). I'm just wondering if this is normal. Besides that, I truly love the car. Maybe I'm just used to the buttery smooth transmission of my 08 civic si (which is now my daily driver). Can someone please educate me? THANKS!

Thats probably your 2 piece drive shaft, i would replace it with a 1 piece aluminum from shaft masters...

I also have 3.73 rear axle, you think the clunking sound becomes more prominent because of it?

Sometimes I hear/feel a clunk too. Only happens occasionally though and its hard to pin down exactly what parameters cause it to happen. Mostly happens when shifting into 2nd or 3rd. I attribute it mainly to some driveline slop. I'm keeping an eye on it though. If it gets worse, I'll definitely be taking it to the dealership to check it out. (by the way, my 69th post....giggity)

It's the nature of the 5.0 and it's tranny/rear end. There are multiple threads on this complaint across the different Mustang forums. Taking it to your dealer will be a waste of time -- even if they can replicate the noise, they will call it a "normal characteristic" of this car.

The good news: This won't be the last noise this car makes that bothers you

+1 on what cidsamuth stated. Mine does it too, you can really get it make lots of racket under certain conditions. This IS, in fact, a normal characteristic of the vehicle. Get louder exhaust or turn up the radio, LOL.
