How fast will the 5.0 go?
#12
My '10 is running on Y's. The tune has the limiter removed. My GPS (Little TomTom) showed 158 MPH when I was flat out in the desert. Of course the road was a long slight down hill, so it likely would not have hit 158 on a flat. But the 5.0 must be good for 165 I would think.

I have tried to gauge MPH according to GPS. I have a Garmin Nuvi. At above 90MPH, I noticed the error range seems to be higher than if I were going 60-70 MPG.
At legal highway speeds, the GPS reported my actual speed within 2-3 MPH.
But at 90 or 100 MPH plus, the error goes up to 5 MPH range.
I guess it makes absolutely no difference if you are pegged out, if you GPS says you are doing 175, your could be going only 170, but you could also be doing 180!

I imagine with some more bolt on mods, an exhaust, and a tune to make it all work together, the 4.6 would seriously rip.
The 5.0 Coyote is still a new engine, well, public-wise, but I imagine by next year, there will be a serious slew of mods and tunes to really milk this engine to push and outdo an '11 GT500's 5.4L

I have heard of a mostly stock 4.6L hitting 170 MPH, with basically only a tune and intake mods.

Really? I never tried that in mine when it was stock, but my near stock (CAI and mufflers) 98 GT did 147 with 60k miles on it. I would have to think the mod motor could push better then that.

I'm pretty sure it is not off by 5mph at 180. If you are comparing it against your speedo, your speedo is wrong.

My Garmin 360 is accurate to 1.5mph at 536mph. I brought it on a plane trip and compared it to the in-flight info display (which is slaved to the pilots' instruments, so they are accurate).

My particular Garmin is a Nuvi 1300T. I unfortunately do not have anything as good as a 3750 or whatever. Maybe that might be my problem?
I do have a hand held pistol radar speedo, and I have used it in other cars to clock how fast the car goes, and it is very consistedt with what the car speedo shows. I will use that to verify if my 'Stang's speedo is fubar.
