How much HP is your 2011 Mustang GT 5.0 putting out on the Dyno?

I am curious, to all those 2011 Mustang GT 5.0 owners out there, how much horsepower are you putting out on the dyno? If you have mods, feel free to state them if you want:)

I know that quite a few have posted before and after dyno results. I want to say that I recall stock being in the 350 RWHP range and tuned being in the 370-380 range. But it's been awhile. Have you tried the search feature?

I have searched around the 5.0 section of this forum, but I guess I didnt go far enough. Sorry=/

Actually, most of the stock dyno runs were only published in car mags. There was only one guy in MF that took his stock car and had it on a dynojet for around 350 RW BHP.

Most people brag about their RW BHP for their Coyotes are around 370 BHP, but they all have tunes, gears, and several other bolt-on mods.

There are at least 2 mags in which I saw them brag that on a stock Coyote with 3.55 gears, after break-in, the car was pumping out 360 RW BHP.

Oh alright, so is Ford mis-advertising their new 2011 5.0 Mustang GT? Because they are claiming that their GT's should reach around 412 horsepower? And if the horsepower is nearly the same as the old V8's, whats making this car faster?

mapitts 11-01-2010 01:55 PM

Not sure where I read this. Ford is claiming 412 HP / 390 ft. lbs torque. Obviously at the crankshaft. K & N got a hold of one to use as a test bed for CAI development. It was commented that K & N showed a consistant 434 HP / 404 ft. lbs. torque. There again at the crank. That was with a bone stock 2011 GT.

Companies advertise their power at the crankshaft only. Because there are so many factors outside of the engine that can alter Wheel Horsepower (WHP) numbers, an engine dyno is usually most indicative of what the engine is actually putting out.

The 05-10 GT's were in the range of 300-315 Crank Horsepower. The 11' GT's are rated at 412 Crank Horsepower.

Conversely, people on the forums tend to list Wheel Horsepower numbers because its MUCH easier to dyno a car that way, than to yank the engine and set it up on an engine dyno. Ford has the luxury of being able to dyno their engines before they go into the car in the first place.

My automatic made 350 rwhp / 332 rwtq stock

it them made 375 rwhp / 354 rwtq with a BBR tune.

Nuke 11-01-2010 03:21 PM

On average, RWHP is roughly 12% - 15% less than crank HP due to mostly drivetrain losses. You can reduce the losses a bit (UDP's, aluminum DS, electric water pump, lighter wheels, etc). NEVER expect to get the manufacturers advertised HP at the wheels on a stock vehicle.
