P-Zero's in cold weather
Just a heads up, I have P-Zero's on my GT. Today the roads were clean and dry and the temp was about 29 degrees. I eased thru 1st and stood on 2nd, the tires broke loose at approx 4500 rpm in second gear!!! These P-Zero's don't like cold weather!! C'mon spring!

Yep. The Brembo package tires are only rated to 40 degrees F... lots of fun @ 20 degrees!
|
Which model P-Zero? The last time I counted there were 10.
ANY high performance tire, even an all-season, will sacrifice cold weather handling due to the rubber compound that gives it it's high performance rating. Anything below 40 deg. F on a high performance tire and you need to drive relatively gingerly. |
For a second there I thought you were talking about me. And you're absolutely right, it's freakin cold up here man! 18 freakin degree's!
And yes, high performance tires + snow = bad day. Do yourself and everyone else a favor and get some snows. You wouldn't wear your flip-lops in the snow would you? ;) |

I've been really impressed with the p-zero tires that came on my deluxe gt 08, and now my base 2011 gt. They provide a nice balance in dry & wet conditions.

The poor traction equals increased rear brake wear.

+1
The P-Zero Nero's on my GT and they do NOT like the cold either, especially before they have a few miles on them to warm them up. I have had a few occasions where the rear wheels broke loose @ around 50mph or so in 3rd gear under moderate acceleration. I've also noticed that they feel a little skiddish at high speed even after 40miles of driving. Taking it easy and keeping the limitaitons of these tires in cold weather in mind is definitely the order of the day. |
Now that explains it, I thought it a little unusual that I chirp second gear with a six speed auto and very little throttle. Yes it is cold on the left coast to and really wet and the ice makes it exciting.
