which piece of foam is the black piece? In the cabin or under the hood.

I havent done this mod, as it didnt show on the youtube video how to get the sound tube apart. I didnt really want to just go prying on my new car with a screwdriver untill i knew what i was doing.

You can get to both pieces of foam from under the hood. Just remove the short piece of black tubing that attaches to the firewall. No screws or anything, just pry it off with your fingers or a small screwdriver. Once you have it off, you will see the white foam on one end and the black foam on the other end. Then just experiment as I did.

I could see the black foam inside the cabin where the tube sticks out about 3/4 of an inch located to the top left of the clutch pedal. I used needle nose pliers to pop the foam out. I almost had it by hand, but ended up pushing the foam deeper hence the pliers.

I did not drive it yet. We'll see in the morning. This was the easier piece to remove and was recommended by dcarlinf1.

A CAI may cost a bit more than popping out the foam, but the sound is more natural coming from under the hood instead of the dash. Just my .02 As for the tube running unfiltered air, I don't see how it would'nt. I'm leaving the foam in. With exhaust and CAI, the car is way louder than stock. Any more might be irritating.

I removed the white foam now as well. So far I like the sound. It's not too loud at all. You only notice it near WOT. It's so easy to try it, and go back it you want, that I think everyone should test it out. It's kinda cool yet corny at the same time. At least it's free.

I know, month old post.....

There is a diaphragm in the pipe to pass sound but not air.
Personally, I put the foam back, sounded goofy to me.

IU did the same thing; I experimented it without the foam and wound up putting it back in. It is absolutely not the same sound as the exhaust itself; just a mechanical sound amplifier of rushing intake air.

This is what I'm doing once the air raid CAI goes in. I have a rubber plug for the firewall once the cabin air tube is removed.
