I had 2008 mustang gt with the shaker 500 souned pretty good. I swaped out my 08 for 2011 and the shaker 500 sucks. I went to a couple places and they told it was gonna about 2500-3000 grand to upgrade it anyone do it and can think of any other way that is cheaper let me know I think the 08 had pioneer and the 10-11 have sony's and the sony sucks sounds so bad .

DIY id say? You can piece together whatever kind of system you want from many different sites, installs arent too difficult, if its anything like the old system the door panel subs are the biggest problem, and are for the most part irreplaceable. Changing out a head unit is a matter of a few screws on the side and some dash panel removal.

Have i done it? No, do I pretty much know it would be cheaper to do it on your own? Absolutely. All it takes is a little reading and some elbow grease.

Also 2500-3000 sounds insane. At 100 per pair of speakers, thats 200 for fronts and backs, and maybe another 200 for custom subwoofers for the doors, thats 400 for speakers, maybe 200-300 for a replacement amp, and 200-300 for a new head unit, so 1000 max for the actual system? Thats 1500-2000 dollars labor? Sounds a little intense to me.

hmmm i didn't really notice a difference between the 2, but i didn't crank it up really high with a goody bass filled song either. my concern with replacing it is the sync and sirius and all of that are tied into the system, you are going to lose features if you replace it.

I'm sure it's the same setup as we had in the 2005-2009s, a cheap amp and cheap indoor woofers, replace those with higher quality and you'll boost performance significantly, get a good amp and you can even throw in some extras.. learn to DIY, you can get a good system for under $500, not great, but good. you can even pull the woofers out of the doors and put them in your trunk, usually sounds better.

I’ve ordered some audio stuff and waiting to receive it. I’ve done some research and found out that changing the HU is not as easy and strait forward as the previous s197
You can improve the stock HU sound signal output by having a sound processor. In my case I’ve ordered the Audio Control LC6i which gives a pre-amp input to 6 channels. I’ll wire 4 channels to a 4 channels amp for the front and rear speakers and the two other channels will be wired to a mono amp for a single subwoofer.
I went will Polk Audio all around for speakers as I had excellent experience with my previous s197 and am trying Polk Audio amplifiers as I’ve read good reviews about it
My set up is:
PA 500.4 4 Channels amplifier for the speakers
PA 600.1 Mono Amplifier for the sub
MM5251 5.25 component speakers for the fronts
MM571 5X7 Coaxil Speakers for the rears
MM 1204DVC 12” sub will be in a custom box in the trunk.
I’ll post a review once the stuff is on.
I’m having this post (http://mshanecrowe.wordpress.com/mustang-audio/) as a reference for the install and the sub box as I’m having the same sub.
