Default 2011 GT VS 2012 Boss question

For now I have a 2010 V6 and in about a year I'm looking to go with the 2011 GT. Ive been looking over some numbers and see that the boss can go 0-60 in 4.0 or 4.1 seconds. the 2011 GT is about 4.5 and still impressive.

The thing I noticed is that the stats for the 2011 GT and the 2012 Boss are so close. It gives me hope that with a just a few simple mods I can get in the low 4's with a 2011 GT. I'm thinking: high flow air filter, tune, exhaust will get me up the the extra 30 Horsepower. the weight/Horsepower between the two are just so close. Is there more to it? Or am I onto something?

(BOTH coupe and both Manual)
2011 GT weight/HP 3605lbs/412HP
2012 Boss weight/HP 3632lbs/444HP

So, if I can add 32 horsepower with a few simple mods am I looking at 0-60 in the 4.0 range with the 2011 GT??

Lastly, I used manual for my research, but I plan to go with an automatic.

0-60 time can be most improved with gear change + tires.. gets some 4.30s and sticky tires and you'll be there..for 1/4 mile times/traps you can reach similiar/better than a BOSS with cai+tune+tires.

The BOSS has new heads, cams, intake manifold and suspension, otherwise it's the same. price for performance you'll get more bang for your buck out of a 2011 GT. If you want to stay N/A get some cnc machines heads/cams/boss intake manifold full exhaust, CAI and you can see 500whp out of a GT (with more R&D i expect we'll see better head/cam combos and get more) The cheaper HP route will be forced induction, 670whp with a whipple on a stock engine. and you'll always find better aftermarket suspension over factory.

on my automatic i plan on getting 4.10 gears, CAI, O/R X pipe, and i still have my M&H drag radials. I expect to run around 11.7@120mph at a sea level track i'm not sure what my 0-60mph time will be, with good track prep i'm sure somewhere in the 3s, but i never measure it, 0-60mph to me is pretty meaningless, i guess maybe in a stop light race it matters.

Great info......if I can get in the high 3's I would be blown away. I do focus on 0-60 because it is my daily driver and I like to take people off the line. If I was in love with top speed I would have way too many tickets

how much improvement would just gears, CAI, tune, and a good exhaust do on a 2011 GT?

I think one of the main reasons the Boss has that much 0-60 time on the GT is because the Boss runs 285 tires out back vs the GT's 255's, therefore it gets better traction off the line. IMO a GT running 285's with a quality CAI and tune would run the same, if not better than a Boss and for a lot less money.

yep, cai+tune+tires+gears, btw my 5.0 says its coming with 235/50/18 tires.. that is skinny.. even on my current car with a lot less power im breaking loose a 275/50/17 drag radial shifting into 2nd and 3rd. im probably around 300whp on my 2007, intake+tune on a 5.0 is getting people close to 400whp.

Get some nice wide drag radials if you want traction on the street.maybe some 305/40/18 or something like that... they'll be expensive to run around in though, they only last a few thousand miles.. nittos will last longer than M&H and MT... i thnk they say 9,000 miles on those?

I really dont know how power+traction+gearing will affect 0-60mph times.. 1/8th mile might be more what you are looking at, that'd put your race at around 90mph i think with a modded 5.0.. which is usually about as fast as im willing to go on a open road w/o intersections.. i dont like racing in town... 0-60 is over so quickly, hardly get going before you let off.

with slicks or drag radials, 4.10 gears, K&N filter, and a 93 octane tune the 2011 gt will run in the 11s, now, with Slicks or DR, 4.10 gears, K&N filter, and a 93 tune the Boss would most likely get at least low 11s or high 10s.
A pretty much stock 2011 gt that runs 11s is really the way to go, unless you got bushels of money then get a 750 hp Roush.
