Default K&N HP-2010 Oil Filter in a Coyote 5.0?

A local performance shop (during a Mustang owners event) sold me a K&N HP-2010 oil filter for my Coyote 5.0. They said the 5.0 can use the same filter as the 4.6. I checked the K&N site this morning, and they recommend the HP-2011. I think they sold this to me because they didn't have any others in stock.

Any thoughts on using the HP-2010 vs. the HP-2011. Does it really matter? The HP-2010 is shorter and wider.

Just looking for opinions before making the drive back for a return. It's a bit out of my way, and I only really went for the owners event.

yeah.. even if you manage to make it hold on somehow it will leak, you can't use it. people were having trouble using anything other than a motorcraft brand oil filter (they'd leak) on the 4.6L, i'd just stick to motocraft, everyone says they are a really good filter.

I don't get why it would leak or be a problem to install. It's a matter of performance being shorter and wider vs. longer and more narrow. Ya, ya... Have fun with that post. I don't know how else to say it.

There's no advantage using the K&N over the OE filter unless the K&N has a similar burst rating that the FRPP oil filter has and you only need that for the strip AND if you have some serious power. I'm not sure what "performance" you're alluding to but the OE filter is as capable as any filter at capturing what needs to be captured. It's just not recommended for more than 8k-10k miles, IMO, like other filters such as Amsoils Ea filters.

how are you going to make a the oil filter fit w/o leaking if it's narrower? (smaller circumference) go ahead and try it if you dont believe me. just have a spare motorcraft on hand and something to catch the oil with.

Exactly. Now, does size really matter otherwise (besides o-ring and threads)?

Not sure on the 5 oh, but I know I still use the old fat style. The new longer ones get in the way of my inter-cooler piping. Ford changed the style of the filter recently, I guess to fit more applications with less filter sizes. It shouldn't hurt anything as long as the housings not touching anything.

just run the ford racing filter, bigger stronger can, larger round return holes....its the way to go.

I asked the shop to order the HP-2011 so I can return the HP-2010. They think it's "over the top" and the HP-2010 is fine, but they're taking care of me anyway.

I look at the FRPP ones next time. This particular shop only stocks K&N.
