Default Mods for the 2011 5.0 auto

I know.. Should be tied to a mustang and dragged to death for not getting a standard with the 3.73 gearing..It's my wife's car and I must admit it is sure pleasant to drive with the auto..It never misses a gear..

That said.. Already looking at mods.. Last Mustang I had was a old 68.. Not near as technical as what I have now.. So I was thinking right off get the programmer coming and next look at getting the boss intake coming.. Was wondering if anyone with a auto have done these simple mods and had good results? Will the BOSS kit work with the auto?

I was quite disappointed that FORD put all the gucci cool stuff on the Mustangs with the standards and left the auto out of the race. Couldn't get a auto with the brake package or the lower gear ratio.. The BOSS, which I would loved to bought only comes in a standard transmission Same sad song with the GT 500.. A real shame.. All Cameros have the auto and all the bells and whistles..

So I would like to have my own auto BOSS.. Minus the brakes, gauges, decals and gearing.. What ya think?

BTW wife wants all the ponies she can get on her car.. Tomorrow I am going to Ford to pick up the badges for the V6.. False fuel cap and 2 side badges to replace the 5.0... Told her she could have what she wants.. Will make the car really look like a sleeper.. My first marriage.. Women want weird things.. At least she knew she wanted a V8.. She done had a V6 firebird.. Learned her lesson..

Also.. Someday I may feel like dropping the cash on a supercharger.. Noticed that most are for the dang manual.. Am I going to get stuck with having to have a Vortech?

Best bet is a nice auto tune. I recommend a UPR tune as it is the best auto tune i have tried. An Intake as i have an Airaid and love it. Headers and exhaust of course. 4.10 gears are great in this car and of course suspension and tires.
Roush SC are really running great in the auto's. Check out VMP tuning as they are running mid 9's with it and his tune.

Just FYI, the Automatic with the 3.15 rear gear has an overal lower first gear than the manual with 3.73. And second gear is close between th two.

So dont mind the 3.15 rear end, its made up in the trans. Thats not to say a 3.55 or 3.73 in the auto wouldnt be awsome.

Definitely pick up a tune from either American Muscle or Brenspeed. You'll feel that car completely wake up when you do that.

As for the SC, there are other options out there such as the roush, and as time goes by more development for FI on the 5.0 will progress and give you a number of options I'm sure. The new 5.0 opens up a world of cool possibilities

+1 on a custom tune. Data so far shows RWHP going from about 350-360 stock on the auto to about 380-400+ RWHP with a good custom tune and a little engine break-in. Custom tunes have been the ticket for power on the 3.7L, 4.0L, 4.6L and 5.0L other than going FI.

American Muscle has done a good job documenting their build up with a 2011 GT Auto. It didn't take much to get a stock auto into the 11's.

Unless you plan on getting cams etc, the intake alone is a wash.

http://www.stangnet.com/mustang-foru...iscussion.html

That dyno is comparing a car that already has a CAI and tune with only the addition of the intake. Not really impressive. You could do more for your oomph if you take the money and buy gears instead of the Intake.

To start:
1. CAI that requires a tune. I have a Steeda.
2. SCT-X3 with Bama Tunes from AmericanMuscle.
3. Roush Axle Backs if you like a healthy growl.
Keep going:
4. New wheels staggered 18x9 and 18x10 with tires to match: Nitto 555 255/45 and 285/40.
5. Koni Sport shocks/struts.
6. Steeda Sport Springs
Gone:
7. FRPP-Whipple Supercharger.
Love the ride, hate the bills.

Just pointing out, there is no Camaro equivalent to the BOSS, so you can't really compare the two.

But anyhow, tons of good suggestions above. A tune and a set of 3.73's would really wake the car up.
