Actually, I've heard bad things about gears other than FRPP. Mainly that other brands seem to be more prone to whinning.

However, I sometimes question the install versus the products simply because the number one cause of gear whine is improper install (Contact surface not adjusted correctly).

What have you heard about FRPP?

i have heard exactly what you are saying about the other brands lol. i believe you are right on a proper install being key ... perfect alignment and what not.
last thing i want it to have a whine going on.... i get enough of that from the woman when she sees a online purchase

did your FRPP 3.73 gears come stock or did you have them installed after the fact?

I picked up my complete rear with the 373 already installed but it seems like the average price is around $300

he doesn't have an s197, you can ignore them (they are different and much more prone to gear whine than any other mustang)

FRPP is what everyone has been swearing by, it's what i had in my 2007. Dealership wanted something insane like $800 to do a gear install and they said it would take a week (to send the PCM to ford to re-calibrate it) you can get gears for $200, gear install kit for $50 (or the installer can supply that, should be same price) and an install should cost 200-250. figure the entire thing should cost $500 or less. and you can change the gear ratio with a hand-held SCT tuner.

Try finding an installer with experience with S197 gear installs and someone who can say they did it w/o any gear whine.

Thanks for the advice it really helps. i guess my next step is to find a someone locally in Houston texas to do the install. shouldnt take that long to complete the install right?
