it's a muscle car that performs like a sports car is what i'd say. There was a comparison between a 2011 GT500, a corvette z06 carbon fiber body, and a Nissan GTR on a twisty track. The GT500 did surprisingly well, especially for a car that is less than 1/2 the price of those cars. but it still isn't in their league. although those are modern day Super cars more than just sports cars.
If you think a base corvette and porsche boxster and BMW M3 are sports cars and base their handling/performance against a 2011 mustang GT, then you can say yes, it does perform like a sports car which is one thing that makes these new cars so awesome.

Honestly although I agree the Boss turns into much more of a sports car, but then again I don't think the whole Mustang platform can be characterized based on the Boss 302 by any means. The V6 and GT should be the real guiding factors as to label the mustang name overall IMO

i haven't seen any Leguna Seca times on a 2011 GT so hard to say where it fits in, on other tracks head to head the BMW M3 and GT are basically even so you can figure it would be around 16 on that list. and you'll see plenty of big name sports cars below that.
