NHTSA investigating 2011-12 manual shifting problem
The NHTSA received 32 complaints regarding the dangerous shifting problem of the 6-speed manual. A preliminary proble may or may not lead to recall.
The problem is that car manufacturer do not recall unless something big happens IMHO.

I have an auto tranny, but I strongly feel that those of you with manual should write to NHTSA about your problems. So this way it will help to augment your case. Currently they only received 32 complaints and that' not a whole lot to get Ford to do a recall. We probably have at least 32 complaints in this forum. So write in to help yourselves!!! My 0.02.

Exactly! There were over 26,000 manual shift 2011 Mustangs with the MT82. at 1% they would need 260 with the exact same problem AND a solution, to do a recall. That's really optimistic. It's cheaper for Ford to handle individual warranty concerns than to recall 26,000 cars. I would think they would need to see 10% with the exact same issue to even warrant designing a solution that could be offered in a recall.
The MT82 is also used in Land Rover Discovery vehicles. I'm not sure how many were built, but the 32 complaints on record now include Land Rovers. The specific problem is getting stuck in neutral during a shift while aggressively manuevering in traffic. I hear all kinds of complaints, but only one or two sounded anything like this.
I have an MT82 and it works great, but I have noticed that it, and the hydraulic clutch, both have idiosyncracies that make me think anything less than precise user input will get some funny results. I have had a couple of moments, but nothing I didn't attribute to user error.
