I've got some buddies with some quick cars that I'd like keep up with. A 12.0 SRT-4 and a 12.XX Grand National
I'm hoping not much is needed besides some good fall air and following mods.
BAMA RACE Tune + O/R H pipe + 17" Drag Radials.
Am I crazy for thinking this? I hope not.
Stock my car went 13.284@107mph with a 2.0" 60' on my 285/30/20 NT555's. DA corrected changed a lot to 12.81@111mph.
I'm hoping the DRs can take me from 2.0 to 1.7 and shave .3-.5 seconds off the big end.
I'm also hoping the tune and pipe can shave another .5. I think this is plausible since the tune will raise the RPM limit and make my trans shift with some purpose.
So my hopeful math is saying an 11.8-11.99 is possible.

I've seen 3 guys with autos, a Tune + MT drag radials. netted them 11.7-11.8@117-118 add in the O/R X and i'm sure you could be there.
With CAI+Tune+17" M&H drag radials I went 13.1@107mph, DA corrected to 12.1@117. I needed work on my launch.
With my mods in my signature i'd expect to run 12.5 with the same DA, mid 11s at sea level and good DA.

new gears are great, at 80mph in 6th im at like 3,000RPM, which is still a pretty quiet RPM range. 2nd and 3rd are really really short, but since it's an auto who cares? Not like i'm trying to shift in 1-4th gear in 3 secs manually Very noticeable change, plus the guy that did it was great. They are even quieter than the stock gears. I can feel that it's accelerating faster, and i'm sure my 1/4 mile numbers will reflect that. 3.15's to 4.10's should be huge. I went from 3.55s to 4.10s in my auto 2007 and i dropped about .3-.4 off my 1/4 mile. At this point I have no regrets going for 4.10s instead of 3.73s.

Well I'm working a deal on some used DR's now. Trying to do this as cheap as I can. May actually pick up a CAI also, but only because its $200 for a Carbon Fiber JLT.

Is it worth getting gears if you DD your car? Mine is my DD but I would like to add gears. Lotta people said it's not worth it for our autos, but some have said it is. I don't think I'd go any higher than 3.73's.

i'll have to do more driving to see what effect the gears had on my MPGs if that is your concern. i drove about 350 miles on a tank of gas with the 4.10s, i peaked w/o them at around 380 miles - all highway miles. a loss of around 2mpg, or a little over a gallon of gas per tank. gotta figure if you can handle the $3-$5/fill up hit you'll take if you drive a lot of highway (60+mph) i expect ill see the same thing I saw with my '07, where i gained an equal amount in my city driving as i lost in hwy, maybe get 24-25mpg in town now. in my '07 i went 15/25 to 19/22.
as far as driveability goes 4.10s drive just fine, even in the snow. did in in my '07 and ill do it in my '12.
