I just had the shifter installed today. It is very stiff/tight. It is so stiff that the return/centering spring doesnt work in (neutral) any more. Seems twice as hard to shift now. I purchased the shifter from Summit Racing in Reno.
Maybe it will loosen up. Maybe not. I thought maybe it needed lube but my mechanic who installed it said he lubed the ball joints.
Any thoughts?

That doesn't sound right. I'd take it back to your mechanic and have him fix it. A shifter install is something you could have done yourself as well, its a really easy mod.

I live in an apartment. No tools. No way to jack the car up to get underneath it. I dont think its the mechanic. The shifter felt quite stiff out of the box but I don't know what it should have felt like. I drove the car last night after it cooled down and the shifter felt better. The return spring was working. Yesterday after it was installed, the air temp was about 100 degrees.

I just got off the phone with Steeda. They said there's definately a break in period for the shifter.
