In my opinion, this guy is pretty car-savvy. He knows his stuff from the conversations I've had w/ him. (He too has a new 'Stang...a Boss 302.)

You can always put what ever gear you wan't in it, if your a stickler and you want the entire rear end than it's going to cost you a buck or two.

^^^This is the most probable explanation.
The guys on the sales floor are really a bunch of lying idiots. They make S*** up all the time. When I bought my car last year, I asked the sales guy how TiVCT works. He didn't even understand the concept of varying cam timing by phasing the cam shafts in relation to the crankshaft. And there were probably about a dozen other things he just pulled out of his *** during the sale. I only found out he was making S*** up when I researched FoMoCo policies, publications, and offerings, when I asked friends, and when I hit the forums in search for more info.

Do the math.
A car with 3.73 gears is SLOWER for a given rpm.
Quicker but slower.

Oh, and he is an idiot.

The guy may know how to take apart a car and put it back together, but doesn't mean he would necessarily know the politics in how the car was engineered or designed. Maybe he's right...but the story is a little far fetched.

The rear gear dont mean anything anyways, If ford would want to get around it, they could always change the gear ratios in the tranmission to complement a 2.31 rear ring gear. It could still have the same overal gear ratio as a current mustang with 4.56. (disclamer......i know current mustaings dont have 4.56, just using it for an example.)

The government making limits on gear selection makes no sense at all. I flat out dont belive the dealer.

That will just make aftermarket 4.10's an easier choice on my 2013, using the same cash the optional 3.73's would have cost.

That's funny, because the Dodge Viper ACR (yes, it's no longer for sale, but still) and the Corvette ZR1 would strike me as both being far closer to a "street legal racecar" than the BOSS 302 is.

Your sales manager is an idiot.

He was refering to FORD offerings, and for the $ spent. I think y'all are reading a little TOO much into this. I'm ONLY commenting on a single conversation. He seems like he knows what he's talking about...from our few conversations. Likeable guy.

I'm not saying that he couldn't be mis-informed. I'm just trying to pass along information.

AND....from my post, "...below the Boss 302..."
