Default Question regarding rpm's

Hey all, quick question about rpms (2011 GT stock). Example: When I am doing 40 mph in 4th gear, it feels to me like the rpms are too high but when I shift into 5th it then feels like they are too low. My question is this: Do you stay at the higher rpms in 4th or do you shift?

Thanks in advance!

Bill

do you have the 3.73 rear gears? I typically go to 5th gear around that speed with the 3.73 rear gears. you can feel when the engine is laboring - just use your best judgment to decide when 4th or 5th is more appropriate. it's weird being in 5th gear around town, I am used to cruising in 4th, but these gears change things.

WIth 3.31 gears 35-40 in 5th does not seem like it is overworking the engine(1100-2000), unless there is a steep hill involved. If a steeper ratio is used then the rpms would be higher at the same speed.

If I watch the tach for normal shifting, it always feel like it is not right for some reason. If I drive by sound and feel, it goes much better. I tend to drive in a gear that gives me the acceleration I want based on traffic and such. Spirited driving is different though.
