The MT82 trans only has 1 overdrive gear, 5th is a 1.0, 6th is a 0.65, that is a steep shift, and if you're at the top of 5th before going into 6th, you may not have enough power to overcome the aero drag. At the very least it is a much slower excelleration. You lose 35% of the torque between 5 & 6.

The answer is more power or different gearing.

Do you really want to compare a much smaller motorcycle engine with a 5.0L v8? really?
Whoa, man, I thought you'd get a laugh out of the engine abuse either way; I didn't think you'd get all shirty about it.

I'm aware of the differences in operation here but yeah, if I wanted to, I actually could compare the two engines...the principles are identical.

From your post, it seemed like you wanted to seriously compare sustained WOT with a long burn out.

I just bought my first Mustang....being shipped as we speak...but had a 01 Corvette Z06 prior. I know to get top speed in the Vette you had to be in 5th gear. 6th was just to high and more for cruising and mpg. I did 160 (for about 10 seconds) in 5th with more power to spare.

I'll be curious to see what the Mustang can do?!

It can get to the top of 5th with little effort..and little feedback to the driver (doesnt feel like you are going that fast).. Ive never been far enough to have to shift into 6th as I dont live on salt flats or in germany
