@ the dealer -- pop on dwn shifting -- oil compustion
Well, Tuesday I finally was tired of hearing the pop when down
shifting from 4 to 3, and 3 to 2. So, I decided to take the car
to the dealership for them to check it out. Before, I just dropped
off the car, I asked the service advisor would she like for the
mechanic to ride with me for he could hear the sound. So, I wouldn't
hear later -- "could not duplicate". The mechanic, heard the sound
and even mentioned he felt it. As of today, the service advisor
knows "nothing", other than the mechanic has been talking to Ford.
I bought, the car in January and it currently has 2800 miles on it.
In that time period, 3 quarts of oil has already been added to it.
Today, the service advisor tell me, the mechanic changed the
oil and placed 8 qts in the car. The oil barely registered on the
dipstick. Now, she tells me -- the "tubing" that holds the dipstick
was too short to get a correct reading on what is actually in the
car. So, now they have to order the part. If that's the
case I wouldn't think I would be the only person out there with
this problem.

Ask them how could a short dipstick tube possibly cause the exhaust to "pop" when down shifting?
That might be an interesting conversation....
How do they explain the horrendous oil usage? Maybe the windshield washer was low???

Mine does the same thing. Pops thru the exhaust when downshifting or just lifting off the gas even hear it at idle. Have u noticed drops of oil, black specks, on ur rear bumper or trunk? My 12 also burned thru 3 quarts a few months ago. Now I check the oil weekly. And I don't by the short dipstick answer u got from the dealer.
I have always thought the popping was bc of the stock h pipe or a exhaust manifold gasket not seated or blown.

Well, I would assume with every motor being mass produced. What would be the chance of
mine being built with either the wrong tubing or the wrong dipstick combination? From this
explanition, I've been driving with more motor oil than I thought. But, still burning a qt almost every 800 miles.
This, popping sound seems to be coming from the back end of the car or the middle. When mostly shifting in the lower gears as 4 to 3, and 3 to 2nd. As, I said before the mechanic not even noticed the sound but stated he felt it. So, I'm interested in what they come up with for this problem.
