Default Cat Back or Axle Back Exhaust?

Is there any more benefit of having a cat back over an axle back or vice versa? What would be the situations that would indicate one over the other? How about performance differences between the two? Also, any suggestions of which exhaust to purchase....I would like aggressive and loud but no drone while cruising (especially highway)? Thanks.

A catback gets rid of the crushed resonators while a axleback doesn't. You wont see any real gains with it, it will just be just a little louder.

+1 I have had both and no power difference that I could feel. I am sure it may have added 2-5 HP, but who really knows. I do know the 3" catback hits the axle once lowered. OE exhaust is has much more clearance.

The only real power from exhaust might be a O/R pipe and LT'S.

Yep, no performance gains either way.

If you plan on forced induction and headers anytime in the near future AND the mufflers come with a catback option it would be best to get it. Save a few dollars and more performance after FI and LTs are installed.

Yup no performance gains really but it is good for future forced induction. And the 3 inch pipe does touch once lowered..nothing some southern engineering can't take care of though..

How low can you go before the 3" exhaust touches the axle? What suggestions are there on fixing such an issue and how much would it cost?

What size is the stock cat back piping....2.5"?

Thanks.

err.. I have a full borla S cat back and I'm lowered pretty aggressively on sportlines - no exhaust clearance issues here.
