Maybe I should do the tune first. I was thinking the BAMA tune since they offer they engine warranty if Ford denies it.

If you can live with gas mileage for the city under 19 then go for the 3.73. The 3.55 should be around 21-19MPG over all. I would get a gear before a tune but you'll need to update the PCM due to the new gear. Unless you like the speedometer being off. Do both at once as its silly to step up like that.

Keep in mind guys that 5th gear is 1;1 unlike all the other manuals where 4th is typically 1;1. I came from a 4th gen F-body with a T56 and the steep gearing of the MT82 threw me for a loop until I adjusted my mindset. Now I just drive the car like it's my old Formula with a set of 4.88 gears. I use first almost all the time, and use sixth at any speed above 40. My average MPG is 19-21 combined with basically a 70/30 split city/highway.

Oh wow...so much for getting a tune. Damn...that really ruined my plans... I guess there is nothing I can do for performance besides maybe the FRPP tune. Which I hear sucks. I should probably get gears

I have the FRPP tune setup in my car. I don't know where your getting your info but it far from sucks. No, it's not as extreme as a Bama race tune but with my 3.73 and FRPP it's quick as Sh*t. This tune should have been factory. The throttle response is hughly increased, better gas mileage and really rounds out the power. Not wanting to lose your warranty you should go FRPP 3.73 gears and tune. You will be really surprised how much you like it.

Are you guys still getting traction with the 3.73 gears and spirited driving starting off in 1st gear? I'd imagine it roasting the tires off the line until 50-60mph giving her all she's got.

Say, in a GTFO of here real quick like situation lol

I have 3.73s and I love them. You will have to learn how to drive with the 3.73 gear and you will not spin your tire. I use 1st gear all the time and I don't spin my tires.
I feel like everyone else, I did not buy my mustang for the gas mileage.
