Default blinking check engine light after redline

Was getting on my pony the other day and redlined it in 3rd and those of you who know the rev limiter kicked in..2 seconds after that the check engine light started blinking for about 15-20 seconds after then turned off. Was thinking it is normal because I read the rev limiter cuts off fuel but not sure.

Keep an eye on it and I hope you pulled over right away once the blinking CEL is on. Is your 2014 car been properly broken-in it yet? You may want to hold on red lining 'til then.

Its my understanding that the rev limiter cuts spark and injectors, the computer likely read this as a Random multiple misfire.

It almost surely stored the event in the history of the computer. Go have the codes pulled and see what dtc is there.
I would almost bet it was a RMM due to the rev limiter. Really if it was any thing serious , the cel would continue to blink until either repaired or cleared.

Redlining IS the proper way to break-in a Stang.

You can bounce off the rev limiter all day and not have a problem. Did you miss a shift.. or just stay in 3rd till redline? If the latter, you are fine.

I had this issue for a while

Ford eventually replaced crank position sensor after i complained about it having happened about 3-4 times and it has not happened since.

and no, the check engine light is not supposed to flash after hitting the limiter.

When mine flashed and i gave it a bit of throttle, it ran rough and weird, the actual code was "multiple cylinder misfire" when the check engine light stayed on once. After the light goes off the engine went back to normal and it only happened about once or twice a month. A ford "software update" didnt fix it. A bama tune didnt fix it. The new crank position sensor does seem to have fixed it, it hasnt come on for about 2 weeks.

After reading your newest 2 posts, you may have a different issue than me. Whatever your issue is should be covered under warranty though.

How deep did you get into the rev limiter? If you simply bounced off of it, it seems a bit excessive (15-20 seconds). If you buried your foot on the pedal and let the car seriously cut the throttle for more than a split second, the computer probably overcompensated.

Blinking CEL is an indicator of a serious misfire which would happen if you buried the pedal and let the computer sort things out for you.

Did you stay on the gas after upshifting or did you simply let off the throttle?
