First Oil Change Time, Which Oil?
#31
I own an 06 GT, but I run Mobil 1 Full Synthetic. Walmart sells gallon jugs for $24.99. As long as you're changing your oil every 3-5k you're good. I change mine every 3,000 miles, or sometimes every 2,700 miles just because I'm pretty OCD with my ****. I'm going to be switching to amsoil pretty soon.

The benefit of using full synthetic is extending your oil changes, period. I typically drive in excess of 30k miles per year and prefer to be under the car 3 times/year or less vs. 10 (dino) or 6 (blend). I have 3 other vehicles, a boat, 4 dogs and 6 1/2 acres to take care of. Full syn is a time saver and I can go beyond my normal 10k mile changes without worrying if I have to. Multiple vehicles sold at 200k+ miles with no engine malady's has been my experience.

Unless you do oil analysis, just because you run a full synthetic does not guarantee you can extend oil changes. I found that out years ago with Mobil 1 in my vehicles.
I also don't mind getting under my car or under the hood more than a few times a year. Sometimes you can catch problems before they get too serious.

What do you guys think about Castrol GTX? I've used that in my, bought new in 2000, '99 Chevy Cavalier Z24, religiously, every 2K miles (yes, I was **** about it being my first new car), and made it to 247K miles with not one oil leak or engine noise; up until I totaled it just this past July, water skiing during a HEAVY sudden downpour.
Obviously, I'm a Ford guy now , and I love my new Black '14 GT that I just took delivery of last week. (Started with a Satin Silver '06 V6 which started me on my modding path and was my undoing, lol). So I'm at 400 miles right now, and I will do the 1000 mile change. I do believe that no matter how tight tolerances are and clean manufacturing processes are, there will be matter in your factory oil fill.
I just want to get a good feel for what I should use for my first change. If any of you know of analysis done on Castrol GTX, I'd be interested to hear. Obviously, my personal experience with it has been good. Otherwise from what I'm reading I might think about switching to Penzoil as my oil for the 'Stang.
