Default Cobra Jet Intake Manifold Questions

So Tax returns will be here in a few months. im thinking about getting the Cobra Jet intake manifold with the GT500 throttle body and air intake.
Ive been reading quite a bit
i found this on the American Muscle website

For those with a major need for more airflow, go with the Cobra Jet. 5.0’s with mild mods or minor plans to add power would be better suited with the Boss intake

All i have performance wise on my car is a CAI and tune and Axle back mufflers. Id like to do headders eventually but not right away. Is this manifold right for me? I dont want to spend all the money on it just to find it doesnt do much. I like the Boss manifold but at the end of the day i want as much power as i can get. I want a Kenne Bell but that will have to wait a few years..

Other info:
Daily Driver, 7 miles to work, 7 miles home. Thinking about taking it to the 1/8th mile drags here soon. thats about it

Thanks for any info
-Chris

CAI and axle backs are not performance mods. They are acoustic mods only.

You don't need a cobra jet as the stock manifold can already produce plenty of airflow. Save your money and get some sort of blower if you really want a boost in performance.

Not including install the setup will cost about $1800, If you are eventually getting a Kenne Bell then you would be $1800 closer if you don't get the intake... If you go with a procharger type setup you can keep the intake and get possibly a little more performance than without the CJ.

But I also want a CJ, and eventually I want a TVS blower so I understand the thought process, and I will probably ditch the CJ for the TVS if I go both routes.

HP wise I am not sure how much you can get out of it, but I have a friend that was getting 12.2's on a bad night of racing... I think 11's are possible with the right supporting mods. I think with a good tune and exhaust you might be up close to 500hp at the engine, so more than 400hp at the wheels to my estimation.

When you get it done Ill go to the track with you ... well as soon as I have moved to SoCal. still thinking about that UCA too lol

Those are my thoughts... hope that helps.

Cruisin & Tico said it well. The CJ intake manifold is around $1800 after you add in the cost of a tune, throttle body that fits this intake, etc.

Also bear in mind that the CJ has shorter intake runner lengths; the runner lengths are the same as the Boss intake manifold.
This means you are shifting your optimum RPM bandwidth higher in the RPM range.

Are you willing to shift at 7800 rpm's to take advantage of this intake?

Forget about the CJ manifold. Skip straight to the headers + x-pipe. Your set-up will benefit more from the addition of headers, and if you do go FI in the future the car will REALLY wake up. CJ manifold is useless for 100% of DD's out there. It is a race manifold and you will be disappointed because you won't get to use it except at the track.

Thanks for the info guys, Guess my money will be better spent with some Kooks long tubes and a shorty X.
I had read mixed reviews about the CJ intake, glad i asked here first.

Pfft. I am thrilled with this CJ setup.

More power all across the range, not just higher RPMs like the Boss manifold.

Next tax return will add this.

How fast have you been with this setup?

Haven't tried top speed runs, though I don't expect that it will change much from stock. Top speed is more a matter of gearing and aerodynamics.
