2011 GT Drop Top 5.0 Motor Ticking Sound.
New on this forum, after owning a few GM cars over the years with different LS engines the latest was an 06 GTO, three month ago I decided to look for a convertible, I did some research on the mustang.
I found a 2011 Konan blue GT automatic with only 31,000 miles at a great price at a used car dealer so I traded the GTO and out the door with my convertible, the car was serviced and oil and filter were changed I have no idea what brand of oil or grade was used and since I was going to change it in the near future anyway it was ok.
After driving the car for 2,000 miles with that oil without any problems or noises all of a sudden it developed a ticking noise when hot in drive after driving 15 to 20 minutes with or with out the A/C, coming from the bottom of the motor so I went and found 100s of threads related to the ticking noises.
I'm and ASE Certified Tech for the last 35 years and decided to try something out before changing the oil and filter, remember I had no idea what kind of oil is in the motor, I believe the coyote came from the factory with conventional mineral 5W 20 motor oil and probably a lot of break-in additives, to get to the point I added LIQUI MOLY MoS2 Anti-Friction to a warm engine drove around for 30 minutes and the ticking was gone.
I have driven the car for 600 miles after that and is quiet, going to change the oil soon will see what happens.
