You should start with the invoice - rebate. At invoice there is holdback money on the table. They can sell $2k under invoice and make money. Work with the fleet manager and you'll skip the silly stuff.

 

Ford holdback is 3% off MSRP, so a 40K car would be about 1200. Permashield is a total ripoff and money maker for the dealer. However, If you are happy with your car and purchase, that's all that matters. Good luck with your car.

Fleet managers will tell you they will sell a new 2010 for invoice, still making the holdback money, and frequently, as they do now, there is an additional 2000-2500 in incentives in 500. increments to the dealer from ford, as I was told by my local dealer contact for college grads, military, law enforcement, quarter horse assoc. etc. Also, some parts of the country have a 2K rebate. Do some homework in your purchase area and you will save a few bucks if you qualify.

 

So if I understand this correctly, being a xplan candidate, one can somewhat negotiate by starting at invoice, and then include the x plan discount and any sort of rebates ford is offering?

 

Yep, we do it for people all the time, did it this weekend for a guy who bought an 08 Saleen from us, its pretty simple.. unless! you dont already have sync, then it is a big job that is a lot more expensive.. AJ_68 do you have sync

 

Also remember this. If a dealer has to dealer-trade in your car, the dealer that ordered the vehicle will get the holdback, not the dealer that actually sells it to you, and 2K under invoice and still make money? yea thats wayyy off my amigo

 

Invoice price, is Invoice price, is Invoice price, dealers dont get their vehicles cheaper b/c they are a "bigger dealership".

 

Would someone be able to shed some light on a previous post? I feel im misunderstanding the x plan concept and just want to be fully prepared when i go to the dealer

 

Chris gt - Xplan is is approx $150.00 over invoice which isn't that much ,but keep
in mind with x plan you do not pay any dealer prep cost that preprinted on buyers orders.
Or At least you dont have to bargain about it.

 

Unfortunately, the MY08 and MY09 Mustangs have a different style radio architecture (GAP ACM Type 2 (non-nav) or Type 3/6 (with nav)--essentially a self contained 'brick' with buttons, screen, and ACM all on one convenient unit). They were modular, and the hole in the center stack bezel where they fit was a standard size. This is no longer the case with the MY2010 Mustangs. It's all distributed now. Buttons/EFP, ACM, screen, and bezel are all radio-specific, not all together in one big brick, and not interchangeable. Changing it out involves swapping all of these things, not to mention a possible APIM swap, SDARS antenna addition, and climate control stuff... it could get messy.

Not to say it's impossible, but it could get hairy. Imagine adding SYNC to a vehicle without it, and multiplying that by 10.

Notice the older style was more modular--easily swappable with some minor ACM reprogramming? The new ones are way different and require a ton of work.
