Default Manual Transmission Change help...

As my previous post about the MT-82's a few days ago...it got me thinking that I want to change the fluid in it. Research tells me there is a TSB on it ( tell me if I am wrong ). I have not seem to find a tutorial on it though, or should I take it to the dealer. I do take my car to the strip.

Is it difficult? Everything in my sig I have done myself so I know that I can wrench on my car...just don't want to get over my head.

Any advice? Is it worth it? Do I need it done?

Thanks in advance.

yes there is a TSB on the MT82. The TSB says to change the factory fill gear oil with the fluid for the dual-clutch transaxles. I had the fluid change done over winter and the difference was night-and-day.

If there is a TSB, wouldn't the dealership change it?

only if you bring it in for a complaint that the TSB applies to.

Hi guys,

A TSB is a repair procedure sent to our dealers in case someone comes in with a specific concern. It is not a Recall and it’s only covered under your new-vehicle limited warranty.

Your vehicle must be fully diagnosed and the concern duplicated in order for your Ford dealership to attempt any repairs on it. With the diagnosis, they can look up any TSBs, SMS, etc. that may apply to your vehicle.

If you just want your dealer to perform the TSB for you, they will charge you for the service. You can schedule an appointment online here.

Ok, looks like Deysha cleared that up. So....back to the OP. is it worth the hassle? I am pretty hands on, but have yet to see a thread on how to do it.

In my '06 GT, it was really easy. All it took was some clear rubber tubing (about 3-4 feet worth,) and the new fluid (which was costly because I bought Royal Purple.)

I took the fake leather shift trim off, because it pops off, and you insert the tubing down into the trans. Then go underneath the car and locate both the drain and fill plugs. First drain the existing oil, re-position the plug, then insert the tubing that you put down toward the trans from inside the car into the fill hole. Make sure it's secure. Go back into the car and empty the bottles (you can squeeze them right into the tubing) all the way into the trans. When finished, go back under the car and put the fill plug back. You're done.

There was a thread somewhere here for the 4.6L. I'm sure it's not too different for the 5.0. The difference was very noticeable for me, with much easier shifts. I did it at about 85k miles.

Can someone explain what this TSB is, and what the symptoms are that would require it? I actually logged on today looking for answers to a very difficult shifting manual in an 07, and this was my first stop.....wondering if this is the place to start.

Mine has 156,000 miles on it, so I'm not complaining one bit, just looking to see what can be done to ease the shifting hard issue.

difficult to shift from 1-2 or 2-1 when the car is cold.

the TSB only applies to 2011 and some 2012 cars with the MT82 6-speed manual. you don't have an MT82. With 156,000 on your car, I'd suspect hard shifting to be either worn synchros or your clutch isn't fully disengaging when you push the pedal down.
