Default Tune for ported throttle body?

To my friends at AM...

I'm currently running a SCT/BAMA 93 race tune on my 2010 4.0 v6. I just purchased a ported throttle body and have experienced some issues.

My question is - Do I need a modified tune to use this ported throttle body? And if so, would AM/BAMA be able to do this?

Below is the link to the PTB I purchased and some details of the issues I had after it was installed.

Install details and issues: I disconnected the neg. battery cable and bolted on the ported throttle body. Then I reconnected the neg. battery cable and started the car. It initally was idliing at just over 2k, then it eventually dropped to about 1k, which seemed fine. I pulled out of my driveway and drove away. I had to hold my foot on the brake to keep the car below 40mph. After about 2 miles the "angry wrench" light appeared and she began to sputter. I immediately pulled over and shut off the car. Then I cycled the key 3 times without starting and the on the 4th turn I started it up. It seemed to run fine for most of the day and I probably drove about 40 miles. We stopped for dinner and when I restarted the car it did the same thing as before (had to hold my foot on the brake to keep her under 40mph) but the angry wrench light didn't appear and no sputtering. I put the old TB back on and she runs nice as she did before. I didn't adjust anything on the new TB and I can't see anything
physically wrong with the new part. It was nice and snug and shouldn't have had any leaks.

Just to note... The AM/BAMA race tune is awesome and the car runs terrific with it. I was thinking maybe the PTB would add a bit more get up and go. Maybe I'm wrong?

Thanks!

Thanks for the inquiry and sorry for any troubles with the new TB.

I spoke to my Tuning Specialists and asked them if the new ported TB is something we have calibrations for and unfortunately, we do not.

However, we could attempt adjusting the calibration you currently have for it, by datalogging the car and analyzing what it's doing with the new throttle body.
It will likely take some time and a few tries, but we should be able to get it pretty-darned close to perfect.

Have you ever datalogged your vehicle before?
Are you familiar with how to do it?

If not, please PM me and I can walk you through it!

For now, I would run the stock TB and the current tune you have on it, until we can get you to datalog it.

Hi Chris,

Thanks very much for responding! I really appreciate it.

Yes, I've performed the data logging on my car before. Just let me know how you would like me to drive the car during the time I'm logging the data to get the best results. I'll bolt it back on and get you some data. And yes, I've removed the ported TB for now to be safe.

How do you wish to handle the exchange of the data log file?

Best regards,
Kevin

Kevin,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

It seems to have idling issues, right?

I would datalog idle, WOT and whatever other conditions the car doesn't want to seem to drive in. Only drive that way for the datalog and put the stock TB back when you are done, so that you don't damage anything with prolonged use.

When you have the files, please email bama@americanmuscle.com and include your order number, parts list and describe the drivability issues in the email and one of my Tuning Specialists can check it out for you.

Also, please CC me chris(dot)young(at)americanmuscle(dot)com so that I can make sure it's being handled expeditiously!

Thanks, talk to you soon!

Hi Chris,

Email was sent. She seemed to run very strong during the data logging once I got the WRENCH reset. :-) The wrench came on during the initial startup. The temp was ~75 this moring so maybe that's why she was peppy - it's typically over 90 here. No idle or sputtering issues this time. The email has all the details.

Thanks!

I got the email, I will have my Tuning specialists at Bama look into is ASAP.

Thanks for getting that done, so we can check out what the car is doing with that throttle body. We should be able to get you running better very shortly here!

So what was the verdict from the tuning specialists Chris?

Hey JimC...

Here's the scoop... They gave me a set of parameters to log with the new throttle body but unfortunately they forgot a couple, so the data log I sent them wasn't quite what they needed. Now I'm out of town until 9/22 and I can't log the car until I get back. Once I get some results I'll certainly update the thread. I've had that throttle body installed 3 times already. :-)

I've already learned something from this exercise. I noticed some oil in the throttle body and installed a oil catch can on the passenger side to eliminate that. Also cleaned the stock throttle body to remove the minor gunk that had accumulated.

Thanks for asking.
