what does COMP mean on stock radio?

hey guys i just noticed the word COMP on my radio below the cd eject button. i have the basic radio in my 04 gt not a mach. can any tell me what it means? and when i press it i get a C on my screan. just wondering

compression, digital compression. Its been a while since I read what it did exactly.... It will help some cd's sound better, and not do much for others. Use if it you like it.

It reduces the range (volume) of the output so that a more even sound is produced.
