Amp location_'06 Coupe
I just got my Scosche 12" sub and Blaupunkt PCA1300 amp from Crutchfield. The enclosure fits and looks great! I still want minimal trunk loss so I was trying to find a place to put the amp. First choice is the undershelf in the trunk in between the rear speakers. I was thinking of giving it a 1" to 2" air gap. Any problem with this? And I suppose it has to be mounted right side up. Also, does anyone have any pics of the backside of the Shaker 500 head. I have to put in a line level converter and not sure of the hookups. I'm just trying to plan before I remove anything.
Thanks Just got 35% window tint today. Looks great. Torch Red V6 Manual |
RE: Amp location_'06 Coupe
Most amps should not be mounted upside down..., althought the blaupunkt doesn't have a heatsink on it. Check the owners manual. I personally ended up mounting my amps to the back seat. Nice and easy to work with. All depends on what you want it to look like. You could mount it to some MDF and bracket it to the right side of the trunk with next to the sub. Could take out the spare and mount it in there, lots of options.
For the output though, since it is the shaker, you could get a cleaner sound by rewiring the subwoofer outputs instead of using a line-level. You need to figure out the + & - outputs for the subs, and then you could just solder RCAs to those. Crutchfield's wiring harness for the shaker 500 has RCAs to drive the subs, which means the deck is putting out pre-amp outputs. 8" Sub amps are in the driver's kickpanel. Let me know if you need more clarification. |

Yes, I need clarification, I'm audio challenged. I found the Shaker harness info (link below) at Crutchfield. What your saying is the small square plug with the RCA plugs can be used for the output to the amp? I would not then need the LL converter.

RE: Amp location_'06 Coupe
Although I have not done it personally, and cannot guarantee it will work, based on the crutchfield cable it should work fine. You would have to splice the existing wires in the 8 pin harness.
Unfortunately I'm not sure of the wiring colors, although I think the blue/white wires are the remote turn-on leads. You could also try to pull off the drivers kickpanel and see if you can match the wires from behind the radio to the amp. |
