AVIC-D3 install Q's

Well, I ordered my AVIC-D3 finally, along with the ipod cable and the FD03B cable I need to attach it to my Mach system. I have the DD mach headunit in the car now (03 GT, manual) and was asking around to some of the audio guys about installing the H/U. One of them did mention the need for a dash kit. I plan on doing the install myself, so I was wondering how true that statement is. Do I need a dash kit? Also, any tips on where to run the GPS antenna to? Another question, for the ipod cable- I was thinking of seeing if I could run the cable to come out of that middle compartment, so I could just plug my ipod in there and close the lid as to not have to worry about the ipod flailing around. Is that do-able without too much tearing into the car?

Lastly, the obnoxious question you all hate to answer: adding subs with this set up. What would you guys add for ~$400(both amp and subs...) to boost the bass. Also, would I have a problem installing these with the set up, or would I just be able to run the subs off the output from the H/U?

Any advice is greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance for anyone willing to post some sites I should check out BEFORE tearing into my car. :D

Well.

I have the Avic-Z1 which is a Double Din 7" monitor. Non-flip out.

I dind't need a dash kit, all I needed was the wiring harnesses.

Install shouldn't be too bad.

The only problem I see s maybe you not being able to locate the speed tap senor if you D3 even has that function.

What's your entire budget for:

Sub(s)
Amp(s)
Speaker(s)
Box
Wires- Expect to pay $40.00

What type of music do you like?

SPL or SQ?

How much room are you willing to give to a box?

I listen to all types of music, rock, rap/hip hop, techno are among the most played. I figured I would just add bass this time around, keeping the original speakers- so ~$400 for subs, amp, box(s), wires. I'd like to flip down the back seats and see subs from the trunk, with the option of moving the box(s) out of the way incase I need to use that function for some reason. I don't believe I'll be entering any sound competitions any time soon, I'd just like some extra bump, so SPL I guess.

And I don't believe I have the speed function on the D3- but I'll find that out for sure.

AVIC D3 does have a speed sensor. Also, dont worry about wiring the backup unless you have a camera

You know you can get a decent set of component speakers, 1 sub and a 4ch amp to power the whole system for about $400 and it will give you great, all-around sound, with the extra bass you want, right? Just giving you other options, I personally hate factory speakers. If you are going to upgrade, might as well do everything at once. Also, if you do one sub only, it will take up less trunk space and allow you to easily re-position it if you need to fold down the back seats.

BTW, you don't need rear speakers so don't factor them in to your budget. I would take all the Mach stuff out, get a decent set of component speakers for the front, a 4ch amp, and 1 10" or 12" sub.

I eventually plan on doing the whole system, but the subs will satisfy me for now. Hiss, you mentioned the speed tap being an issue- can you provide me some guidance on it?
