No sound from driver's side speakers
Alright I have a problem with no sound coming out of my drivers side, but before I get specific, I'll give ya the background on my stereo.
I bought the car (99gt) a week ago, but the guy took out the subs and amp. He left the wiring so I picked up a used US acoustics 6300 6channel (2ohm per channel, atleast for the sub channels I know it is) amp with 2 10" JL subs (not sure the specs but they are 8 ohm) in sealed box for $100. The head unit is a sony cdx m850mp. I wired up the subs and amp with ease, put the 2 8 ohm subs in parallel, then bridged to channel 5/6 of the amp. To get a 4 ohm to 4 ohm match. Sounded decent for what I paid, so no complaints there. BUT then i figured i have the 4 channels for speakers, so why not use those? The rear speakers already had 2 extra wires slpiced in each and they came together to a 4 pin male plug, that used to plug into the old owners amp. My amp now doesnt have the plug so I figured I would cut the plug off and hook the wires straight into the amp. But when I touch any of the 4 speaker wires I get a loud bass THUMP. No matter which channel or which wire. And now my left front and rear speakers stopped working all together. I've looked for any shorts or loose connections but don't see any. I know there's some audio genius' on here, so I figured I'd ask you. thanks. |
RE: No sound from driver's side speakers
Here are the amp specs if it helps
http://www.usacoustics.com/2004/usa6300%20specs.htm Also forgot to mention, stock speakers all the way around. |
RE: No sound from driver's side speakers
Did you run RCA's for your front and rear channels, you cant just hook them up and assume they know where the signal is coming from. You really don't need to amplify your stock speakers anymore than they already are.
If you bought the deck used, you should check your balance for one, and for two is a Sony so it could very well be blown on one side. |
RE: No sound from driver's side speakers
No, I didn't run RCA's. I was thinking the last guy had them hooked up and there were no extra RCA's, but now that I think of it, its pretty stupid. And yes, I dont car about hooking the speakers up the the amp anymore, they sound fine without. I just figured if I could, why not? And the balance is fine, all that has been double checked, and it worked fine before.

I could help if I could picture what you are doing at the rear speakers. Can you get a pic?

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...08_1734_00.jpg Here you can see the wires that are spliced into the rear speakers, on both sides. They were attached to a 4 pin male plug (which I'm pretty sure some amps have a plug for) Since my amp does not have it, I cut it off to hook the wires up directly to one of the 4 speaker channels. (channel 1-4 are speakers, channel 5-6 are for subs) http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...08_1735_01.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...08_1736_00.jpg The RCA outputs from the deck. The amp has 4 inputs, its conected to 1 and 2. http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...08_1736_01.jpg The subs wired up in parallel. http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...08_1736_02.jpg Red to power( I put tape on because I was paranoid that some how it could short on the ground, since they put it RIGHT below. I was going to put on proper plugs and heat shrink them, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Blue obviously REM. Black wires from sub, wired to pos from channel 5 and neg from channel 6. (bridged internally). |
RE: No sound from driver's side speakers
6 channel and it only has 4 inputs... Hmmm.
Yeah with them spliced like that, you are basically sending it more power but no signal while its already getting power and signal from the factory system. Not a good idea. |
RE: No sound from driver's side speakers
Lol, yes I'm aware it's not the greatest idea now. But any idea's what damage it could have done? If it blew the amp in the deck itself, wouldn't it be the front or the back not working, instead of the left side.

RE: No sound from driver's side speakers
Well you disconnected it right? You need to unplug the wires coming out the the amp going to any of the factory speakers.
|
RE: No sound from driver's side speakers
you will need to disconnect the facgtory speaker wire going to the speakers. The only wire connected to it should be from teh amps outputs.
