Default Mach 460 on the fritz, any ideas?

So I got my car with the OEM Mach 460 speaker setup, but the original owner had replaced the head unit with some cheap crap from Aiwa.

Here's the problem:

I want to replace the head unit, but I don't know what will or will not work.

To make things better, the speakers are cutting on and off at random.
Not all of them, just one or two, hit a bump and lose them, slow down, they pop back on, it's almost entirely random. Sometimes they'll turn on and off a few times w/o even doing anything, just sitting in my driveway idling.

Where do I start to look for problems?

Would it be easier to just rewire the whole car?

Thanks in advance.

Start with a new headunit, make sure all the connections are good not loose or anything....Any single din headunit will work....

What speakers are cutting out the mids or the tweeters?

If you replace your deck, look on here for a member Ttocs and go to the link in his sig.... that like will show you how to wire everything up with the new deck.

Just look for one of his posts and you will see the link.

If not i am sure he we be on here later and and will post the link in the thread anyways.

Its alot easlier to see pictures then have one us type it all out. If you have anyother question just let us know.

As for what speakers are cutting out. It's essentially all of them, at different times, depending on what type of bump I hit. Took out the head unit, but the adapter to the Mach 460 system seems to be part of the problem (jiggle it around, sometimes I can get all the speakers to work). Anyone know where to get a new harness?

autozone or any car audio shop will carry them. I would figure out exactly which speakers are going out and if we can correct it before putting a new deck in.
