Factory Amp Remote Turn On

Can I just use the factory amp remote turn-on wire instead of running new wire? It's pretty small, but it won't be pulling near enough current to warrant an upgrade, right?

I am running an MTX JH1200 (1200 WRMS) and MTX JH404 (200 WRMS).

Thanks!

the remote turn on for an amplifier is a 12v, low current wire so you do not need anything bigger then a 16-18(thin)wire. The only problem that you will find is that ford is the only company to use a 5v remote turn on, again your amp needs a 12v. Rather then connecting to the remote turn on wire connect to an ignition wire and the amps will turn off with the key then, rather then the radio.

Damn ttocs you beat me to it...... I just had to edit everything I said so I didnt double post the same stuff. :D

I have an aftermarket HU that supplies 12V, so no problems there.

I've currently got a resistor dispersing some of that so my Ford amps get 5v, but I'll take it out when I put my new amps in.

Oh so your redoing you whole system? Pulling out the mach and starting form new. Then yeah just use the amp turn on(blue/white) on the back of the aftermarket HU.

Thanks for the help. The search function on this site doesn't work very well, so I have one more question:

Is it fairly easy to modify the stock speaker locations to accept 6x9 speakers?

GTRedfire03 04-28-2009 01:48 PM

Dont know.....Why do you want a 6x9 anyways? I could see the back speakers being easy to modify to fit 6x9s but dont know about the fronts. I wouldnt recommend 6x9 anyways.

Get yourself some 6 1/2 components for the front.

Will I need an adapter to fit 6.5s into the 6x8/5x7 holes?

GTRedfire03 04-28-2009 02:00 PM

Yeah you will, scsoche makes something or you can make your own with some MDF.

Why would you recommend 6.5" over 6x8"? I understand that they are truly round, unlike the 6x8, but the 6x8 gives me more surface area and is also available as a component set.
