Default How do I hardwire my GPS?

Im looking to do a clean install of my GPS by hardwiring it so that it has power when my car is turned on. I understand I cant use the cig lighter since it has constant power, but can use a fuse tap?

Can somebody help guide me through doing that?

Yep, you can connect to an empty accessory spot in the fuse box. I couldn't tell you where exactly since I haven't had to do it with this car. Just test which get power with the key on only.

Yeah im looking at my owners manual as we speak and theres tons of open slots that arent used.

How can I tell if its an accessory slot? Shouldnt it be like 12v? or how many amps (if thats what the tester will tell me?) im not the greatest with this stuff, sorry lol

For a portable GPS.. I'd go 15 or 20A myself. (20A may be a bit high) I don't know if I'd go under 15A but you may be able to get away with 10A...As far as finding which is an acc spot just get out a voltmeter and see which ones only get power with the key on.

It should say what the amp rating is on the unit..i.e.. 5.6amps@12vDC If it's an off fuse size round up to the next highest fuse. And make sure your unit is 12v before you do anything.
