s197 here with bone stock charging system, no big3 either since i havent found need yet

running 150x2 rms and 600 rms. the only time i get any dimming at all is with highbeams on, rear defroster, ac blasted, and stereo at near full tilt I get a bit of dimming at idle. otherwise no dimming issues at all

IMO do the big3 and it will prly cure all of your dimming. expect some dimming at idle even with an upgraded alternator

if you are going to run anything more then a cd players deck amp then do not run underdrive pullies.

I was talking about replacing the pulley on the alternator to an OVERdrive pulley. I thought they made them for the 3.8 new edges, but I can only find them for the 94-98's now. Oh well....

It's for people who run UDPs and are concerned about charging. Usually highly recommended if you go to a 42% UPD.

I don't want to steal a thread or anything but i figured since were on power issues.. i recently self installed both a DB drive 475w AB amp and a DB drive 1200w D amp driving two 12" subs on my '08 v6 now it works fine at conversation volume but when i even think about turning up the volume my AB amp cuts out and loses power completly so i hear a the bass in the back but nothing in my speakers then after a few seconds or when the song hits a lull it comes back. The problem gets progressively worse as im driving yet seems to come after my car has been on for a while. Could this be a bad grounding issue with my amps or maybe a big 3 problem?

It could be a bad ground or a defective fuse/distribution block, if you are using one. Where and how did you ground the amps?

what is your gain set to?

Double check your speaker connections. Often if an amp detects a short it will shut down all output on the amp to pretect it. Nex time it happens, go back and start disconnecting one speaker at a time from the amp. All you need to do is unhoon either the pos or the neg and if that speaker had the short, the other three should start to play. You can double check it if you want with an ohmmeter.

Gain on the amp? I'm not sure i'd have to go look but is there a particular way it should be?
I grounded it to a spot under the plastic where the rear seatbelt lays and mounts, I know it should be on the floorpan or under the seat but it seed like an easier place to scrape paint and bolt the o rings, I guess I should change that anyways, and I'm not using a distribution block for the + but rather 2 separate wires two separate fuses and both look like a pretty heavy gauge..
