Default Pioneer 4300 install

So I got a new dvd head unit for the stang, and want to double check a few things before I start tearing things apart/soldering
The Ford Replacement Interface for aftermarket stereo's replaces the need for a normal wiring harness correct?
What does the VSS(purple/white) wire do?
Bought the relay to bypass the parking break, simply splice it to the HU's ground wire?
also splice in the ground from the pac harness?

Anything else I should know? before i screw something up? :P

edit. need this info rl quick, on the dvd head unit installation guide it says i need the diode installed a specific way.
the grey stripe pointing toward the branched side and away from connector side.
connector side=the head unit correct?

Hey lopez, its installed
took a while slowly pulling apart panels so i didnt scratch/break them.
with the replacement radio interface it really takes alot of fiddling with the wires to get them all stashed in the area. zip-ties and electrical tape applied where necessary to keep the wires and other pieces from rattling around.

Didnt take any pics of the install since those guides are everywhere <+ with your 2012 the procedures might be different>
But heres my pic of the finished head unit, doesnt look to bad if i say so myself.

No data provided is because it doesnt have hd radio I would assume? That would feed it info on the station/songs played.
Pandora works great through it
Also while I was in here I took an extra 12v socket <the one in dash is for show now> and hid it and my gps wire behind everything and routed it to the corner of the dash.
heres a pic of the only visible section of wire

All in all it was a great success.
I really need to work on my soldering skills though :P

Yea i got it for christmas 2 years ago if i remember correctly.
Really like how I got the wire hidden behind the dash now.
made sure to secure it and any other things that would move around alot to prevent them from disconnecting/rattling

Hmm. On my way to work today I realized my screen brightness was pulsing. Going brighter then dimmer every few seconds. It wasn't tied to the music (paused it). Sitting in the lot I revved engine up, kept doing it.
Engine off kept on going.
Did a wire break loose? Some setting in the hu I missed?
I don't remember it doing this last night when I installed it

Since you have pics, I assume this already went ok. VSS in this case means "Vehicle Speed Sensor". It's used for the GPS normally, in case you lose the signal for a bit, it can still guesstimate where you are. And for displaying your speed by it of course.

Not necessary in most cases, speed will be displayed via calculated GPS, then just show as 0 if it loses the signal.

You can always put the bluetooth mic in the a pillar. Atleast you can in the new edges.

Bt mic?
I didn't get the bt unit. That wire is my unrelated tomtom power.
I just took a pic of it cause I did it at the same time and I was proud
